MacRoberts has won Impact Case of the Year at the Managing IP EMEA Awards in London. The firm was also runner-up in Firm of the Year – Disputes (Scotland), and Partner and Chair Euan Duncan was runner-up in IP Practitioner of the Year (Scotland).
Now in its 18th year, the Managing IP Awards programme recognises remarkable IP achievements and developments over the past 12 months, covering several intellectual property practice areas and more than 50 jurisdictions.
The Impact Case of the Year award recognises MacRoberts’ work in The Tomatin Distillery Company v Tomatin Trading Company case. The decision, in favour of the Tomatin Trading Company, was a landmark judgment and the MacRoberts team, comprising Euan Duncan, Julie Hamilton and Lynsay Cargill, has closely worked with the Tomatin Trading Company from the beginning to enable it to use the geographical village name, Tomatin.
MacRoberts has a strong track record in advising on complex, high-profile IP disputes, including copyright, patent and trade mark infringement, passing off, licence agreement disputes and other IP disputes and the firm regularly works alongside patent and trade mark attorneys, dealing with cases in the Sheriff Courts and the Court of Session in Edinburgh.
Euan Duncan has been advising on intellectual property matters throughout his career and is focused on helping businesses identify, protect, commercialise and drive value from their intellectual property. Julie Hamilton has directed and managed numerous intellectual property disputes to secure and protect the rights of the businesses she acts for.
Managing Partner Neil Kennedy said:
“As an independent Scottish law firm, to be recognised at this level is an outstanding achievement. We are extremely proud of our intellectual property and dispute resolution teams and this recognition is testament to the high-quality clients that we work with and the hard work, projects and superb talent we have within the teams and across the firm.”
