MacRoberts has successfully achieved reaccreditation for ISO 22301 Business Continuity and ISO 27001 Information Security. The firm holds these certifications alongside ISO 9001 Quality Management and ISO 14001 Environmental Management.

MacRoberts’ ISO (International Standards Organisation) standards are assessed by the British Standards Institution (BSI), the United Kingdom’s national standards body. This involves a rigorous annual assessment on the areas of leadership and commitment, objectives, resources and training, communication, internal auditing and risk management.

The firm achieved the ISO 27001 Information Security certification in 2017. This is an internationally recognised security gold standard which helps businesses identify risks to information and put in place appropriate security measures to ensure these risks can be managed and reduced. Furthermore, business continuity is a critical element of the firm’s Business Management System, and MacRoberts achieved the IS0 22301 Business Continuity certification in early 2020.

Risk management is an important area of focus for the firm, and the four ISO standard certifications are considered critical to the business’s operations. As cyber crime becomes increasingly sophisticated, and with an increased threat of cyber attacks threatening not only business IT systems but the wider UK infrastructure as a consequence of the conflict in Ukraine, the firm’s business operations are kept under constant review by its Risk Management Team, comprising the Management Board, Business Directors and dedicated Risk Manager.

MacRoberts is committed to following the rules in place with the upgrading of the current sanctions against Russia and Belarus. In 2021, the firm appointed a specialist anti-money laundering team, headed by ex-Law Society of Scotland AML specialist Fraser Sinclair, to ensure its robust controls and processes for a safe, smooth and efficient client onboarding experience are maintained.

Alongside its ISO certifications, MacRoberts is certified with Cyber Essentials Plus, which helps to ensure the firm maintains a high standard of awareness and defence against cyber threats which may impact its clients and business.

Neil Kennedy, Managing Partner, said:

“These certifications are not only critical to our firm’s operations, but are central to our culture, ethos and how we deliver on client requirements. Our attainment of these four standards firmly establishes our position as market leaders within the Scottish legal sector. As well as fitting with the strategic direction of the business, these certifications provide a platform that supports our excellence in the delivery of legal and debt management services.”
