Sector expertise

At MacRoberts, our clients know that they have the backing of a responsive, cross-disciplinary team with extensive market knowledge. We have in-depth experience of the sector, having acted in some of the largest commercial real estate deals in Scotland. We also draw on the specialist expertise of other departments, enabling us to provide a ‘full service’, in areas such as property litigation, tax, planning, construction, intellectual property, employment and restructuring. Such cross-department expertise is invaluable, and one of the reasons why our retail team stands out from the crowd.

“In addition to the personal, full-service offering at partner level, clients can be safe in the knowledge that whatever the nature of their business – complex supermarket chains, niche retail, fashion, food and drink – at MacRoberts, we can tailor our services and leverage our expertise to suit any retail client’s unique needs.”

Kelsey Gibson, Head of Retail

Employing over 10% of the UK workforce, in a highly competitive and ever-changing environment, retail operators are significant contributors to the economy who are at the vanguard of multi-channel shopping. But staying ahead in both global and local markets, beset with variables that impact on retail and real estate, means constant pressure to adapt, innovate and raise customer standards, while building infrastructure, culture and brand.

“Really timely, efficient, good attention to detail, very good understanding of the brief.”

Such a multi-dimensional industry, which offers immense opportunities as well as challenges, raises complex relationships and legal issues that the Retail team at MacRoberts understands and anticipates. Long-established in the Scottish market, with an excellent reputation in retail investment and development, we advise on a wide range of matters, including finance, commercial property and leasing, tax, employment, IP and technology. Commercially-focused, committed and innovative – the Retail team offers a personal service delivered to the highest level.
