Richard is an Associate in the Pensions Group, having joined the firm as a trainee in 2009.

He provides legal advice to the trustees and employers of occupational pension schemes on a variety of matters including buy-ins, apportionment arrangements, scheme mergers, wind-ups, pension freedoms and auto-enrolment. He also advises on the pensions aspects of corporate transactions and employment-related matters. His work covers the private, public and third sectors.

Richard’s broad range of experience also includes work undertaken on behalf of our professional trustee company, MacRoberts Trustees Limited, and helping trustees to manage both the operational and strategic aspects of running an occupational pension scheme. That work includes communicating with members, advisers, employers, The Pensions Regulator and the Pension Protection Fund; negotiating employer guarantees and the granting of security; and managing the transition of schemes into the PPF and the Financial Assistance Scheme.

Richard is a full member of the Association of Pension Lawyers, and holds a Retirement Provision Certificate from the Pensions Management Institute.

Richard is also a member of the Leaders Network of the 2050 Climate Group, having completed the charity’s Young Leaders Development Programme in February 2018.
