64% Increase in Employment Tribunal Claims
Tribunal fees were introduced in July 2013 and abolished on 26 July 2017. We have been waiting to see what the effect of the abolition of fees would be. The statistics for the quarter July to September 2017 have just been published. There has been an increase of 64% in the number of single Employment Tribunal claims lodged.
For three years the number of single claims lodged has remained relatively stable, with around 4,200 claims per quarter. In this most recent quarter, the number has increased to 7,042.

Against this backdrop, there are some simple ways that employers can ensure they are complying with their obligations, protecting their business, and mitigating the risks of potential employment tribunal claims.
