MacRoberts steps in Legal Sector Alliance footprints

MacRoberts LLP has recently become a member of the Legal Sector Alliance (LSA) - an industry-wide collaboration promoted by the English Law Society of law firms and other organisations who are committed to take action on climate change by reducing their carbon footprint and adopting environmentally sustainable practices.

Michael Murphy, Managing Partner of MacRoberts said: “We believe that our involvement in the LSA is a natural progression of our own efforts in reducing the impact of our business on our environment and we will use our membership of the LSA, and the access to resources and knowledge that it provides, to leverage our performance in terms of our own Footprints initiative.”

With climate change and environmental factors being an evermore primary concern in today’s society, an integral part of MacRoberts’ current operational strategies includes initiatives such as a significant move toward an electronic office, coupled with a resource management strategy, covering the reduction in the firms’ reliance on finite resources and the recycling of waste.

MacRoberts Glasgow office moves into the impressive new-build Capella Building in the heart of the city’s IFSD in May 2010, and many features of both the building itself - which has been engineered to a high environmental EPC rating of ‘B’ - and the ongoing MacRoberts fit-out involve careful consideration to reducing the carbon footprint and environmental impact of the building.

The LSA believe that acting on climate change is in the collective interest and that a greater impact can be achieved through collaborative action and the sharing of knowledge and experience than could otherwise be achieved by the efforts of individual firms. To act as a framework for individual and collective action, they have developed a set of principles, which cover members’ own operations, as well as their wider influence on employees, suppliers, clients and policy makers.
