Generally established to achieve social aims or objectives, we appreciate the special characteristics of Voluntary Organisations and Social Enterprises and understand how these explain and inform all of their activities.
Whether providing governance advice, or regulatory advice in connection with oversight by the CIC Regulator or other regulatory bodies, review of decision-making and approvals is not the same as for more conventional commercial bodies and so we work more closely with Voluntary Organisations and Social Enterprises clients in connection with these matters, as they require.
However Voluntary Organisations and Social Enterprises still demand a complete range of commercial legal advice. So we advise on corporate transactions and banking, with Employment (including TUPE), Data Protection and Public Procurement expertise in relation to public sector contracts playing a strong part too.
And we work with the Third Sector as it evolves in policy and industry terms. For example the maturing of social enterprise as a sector involves making new business models work, so that commercially profitable ventures can maximise social returns. And where we share some of the excitement of social enterprises and other ventures, this is perhaps no surprise given the energy and enthusiasm of social entrepreneurs.
For some years, MacRoberts have been working directly with the Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations and also Social Enterprise Scotland on a range of initiatives.
