Private Client - further info

MacRoberts' Private Client Group focuses entirely on the needs of the individual. Irrespective of how straightforward or complex their legal requirements, for a great many individuals throughout Scotland and abroad, our Group have been for many years, and continue to be, their trusted advisers. We draw our clients from a wide spectrum of society, from entrepreneurs and business people, to families for whom we have continued to act from generation to generation. We are happy to assist and give expert advice in the following areas:

Wills & Tax Planning
We cannot stress too highly the importance of making a Will. Family and personal relationships are now more complex than ever and the absence of a Will can cause significant problems and put the interests of both the immediate family and any business connections at risk. We encourage all our clients to make a Will, so that proper arrangements can be made, avoiding unnecessary expense, for those who survive us on our death.

Executries
We aim to de-mystify the procedures involved and administer an Estate quickly and efficiently. In an average year, we administer Estates ranging from a few thousand pounds to several million.  Beneficiaries gain from our experience, as we can pro-actively advise where tax savings can be made, streamline administration and provide continuing advice to beneficiaries who we are happy to welcome as ongoing clients.

Tax
Our dedicated team of Tax Experts will advise on Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax and provide guidance as to how and when their effects can be mitigated. In addition, our Group provides a full range of accounting and compliance services including the completion of Income Tax Returns, the preparation of Capital Gains Tax computations and Income Tax Repayments Claims.

Trusts
Trusts are created for a wide variety of reasons including asset protection and Tax mitigation.  We advise when a trust is appropriate and what form it should take. Trusts are complex particularly with regard to taxation and we can identify the traps for the unwary to ensure clients avoid any taxation pitfalls, and benefit from all the opportunities available to them.

Charities
We set up charities and obtain charitable status from the Inland Revenue. Thereafter we provide guidance on compliance, accounting and administration.  Our advisers are well-versed in the myriad of issues and concerns which can arise within the charitable sector and our legal advice is enhanced by hands on experience as Trustees on a wide range of charitable trusts.

Powers of Attorney & Elderly Client Care
All clients are recommended to grant a Power of Attorney as a safeguard against unforeseen events.  If a client has a Power of Attorney in place and circumstances arise whereby they are unable to act on their own behalf, their affairs can be dealt with in a simple manner with the minimum of formality, interruption and expense. Elderly clients often wish the burden of managing their own personal finances to be lifted from them.  We can assume responsibility in whole, or in part, for financial and taxation matters or simply provide support and guidance where needed.

House Purchase & Sale
We have wide experience in the purchase and sale of properties, residential leasing and property transfers whether for taxation reasons, Inheritance Tax planning, gifts or asset protection.  MacRoberts differs by providing attention to detail on the small, but important, points often overlooked. We are also members of the Glasgow and Edinburgh Solicitors Property Centres (GSPC and ESPC) which enables us to offer a combined package of marketing, sale and purchase for your home move.  Alternatively, if you prefer, we are happy to act with an agent of your choice. Our aim is to ensure efficiency and simplicity.
