Stephen was the recipient of the 'Solicitors Poll - Individual' Award at The Law Awards of Scotland 2009. The Firm online research poll asked clients, peers and advocates to select their solicitor of the year.
Stephen is Head of Employment Law and is a Law Society of Scotland accredited specialist in Employment Law and Discrimination Law.

He is listed in Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession as a leading individual in two categories, Employment and Sport. Stephen represents some of Scotland's largest employers and has a large Public Sector and Education practice.

He is also the Law Society of Scotland representative on the national Employment Tribunal Service Users Group, and a Committee member of the Employment Law Group.

In January 2005, Stephen was appointed as an SFA Independent Legal Chairman.
Stephen is a Member of the Sport Resolutions Panel of Arbitrators - Chairpersons List.

Stephen's experience includes: assisting 21 Scottish Local Authorities with the defence to over 5,000 Equal Pay Act claims (ongoing); successfully representing Glasgow School of Art at the Employment Appeal Tribunal, establishing that an Employment Tribunal Judgment had been “perverse”; and helping Falkirk Council defend the Judicial Review Petition raised in the Court of Session by UNISON and GMB following the implementation of a new pay and grading structure and based on the gender equality duty.
